Thread: No Screensaver showing with BOINC Windows agent |

I uninstalled the UD agent and installed BOINC Windows agent a couple of days ago. I no longer have a WCG screensaver. I just get a black screen when I've been idle for 5 min or more. The BOINC agent is running and I'm returning results, but I'd sure like to have the screensaver up when I'm idle so I know it's there. What do I need to do to get a visible screensaver? THANKS for your help!

Go to your display properties (you can right-click on your desktop and select properties, or go to the control panel to do this). Then select the Screen Saver tab at the top. Click the drop-down arrow and select BOINC. Change your wait time to whatever you want.
If your power saving is set to shut down the monitor before your screensaver starts, then you still will not see the screensaver. You can change the power savings for your monitor by clicking the Power button in the screensaver tab. |

hmmm i know that during installation there is the question of also setting the screensaver. The file is called BOINC.scr and if you copy it to the windows directory, you can manually set it thru the Desktop Control Panel.

I had the same problem when I installed BOINC yesterday on XP SP2. I had to uncheck the screensaver option "On resume, password protect." This will be a problem since I must have this option checked on at work. Can this really be true in this day and age?

Not sure i follow:
----------------------------------------- Set the BOINC.scr as screen saver - Set time delay time to 1 minutes with the password box ticked - After 1 minute the BOINC logo appeared - After further 15 seconds the Graphics frame showed - After further 10 seconds the HPF2 graphics of active job which are a bit demanding started hopping around the screen. - 1.5 or minutes the energy saving kicked in and screen went black - After hitting escape the log on window appeared and signed back in Computation is set to always, using Threadmaster to process at 90%.

Thanks to all who have tried to help me with this. This is installed on my work laptop at IBM, and it turns out this is a reported problem within the IBM network that the support folks are working on. Should have a fix soon I think.

Hi mlawor,
I also work in IBM and have this problem since a year... I don´t see anyone working on it... I hoped that a newer version will solve it but... also this latest version has not changed anything. Help appreciated to circumvent this problem.  |

just noticed that when I remove the "on resume, password protect" the screensaver is loading correctly... so... only related to this flag. I agree with danielv12 here... seems to be a bit outdated.

Suggest to get 5.10.22 from the WCG download page, the first WCG endorsed 5.10.x release. It has a long range of fixes. As eluded in my earlier post, it works fine here with password resume. It's a bug which we only can learn if fixed using the new release.

Hi Sekerob,
I installed the new version and ... same problem. Only without the lock on resume checkmark the screensaver is loading. I even tried a reboot after installation, but no change. |
