I've got a couple new Dell Vostro 200s. I'm trying to run them headless w/just power cords & network cable. I have many other headless machines which I control via a remote utility.
----------------------------------------When these PCs boot up headless, they check for the keyboard and will not proceed further b/c there is "keyboard failure". I looked in the BIOS and couldn't find any settings to disable this obnoxious feature - I know there's no keyboard, and I don't really care! Anyone know how to auto-bypass this? ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 24, 2007 2:16:41 PM] |

Check the BIOS again - this time look for an option such as "abort on errors" or "treat warnings as errors".
Not a guaranteed fix, but a possibility. |

I have multiple computers hooked to a KVM switch. There is one keyboard, so they all can find it.

i've run into a few BIOS that have options for that. not sure of Dells, but may have something of the sort stating "Halt/Stop on Errors" options from that are to the effect of all/none/all but keyboard etc. Probably find in section that has the POST settings. Hope it helps. ^^

Speaking of Questar's keyboard dongle...
----------------------------------------Here's somebody who had a keyboard recognized by a bluetooth dongle and he couldn't type on his REAL one. http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-bluetooth/2004-November/000062.html I'm fairly sure of COMPAQs. My wife's Compaq is set so you can't even get to the BIOS. ... or at least not with Compaq WinXP. I'm not sure what would happen if it ever got wiped and reloaded with vanilla WinXP.

I have a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo and had to disable the keyboard detection in the BIOS. Frequently the software fails to perform the radio detection so sit with unapproachable PC.... fortunately, LogMeIn comes to the rescue, which allows me to reset and force the detection and enter the security confirmation code. After, i walk over to start using the machine.... drama.
