I run WCG on several broken laptops. Because 1 runs ubuntu i cant get the wireless connection to work (despite the hardware working great). troubleshooting isn't working wither, therefore i am 1 cable short of everything being connected all of the time. I just switch the plug to whatever machine needs to send at that time.
the work unit on the windows computer keeps going, but its disconnected so i always get an error message saying it cant do internet communication (when its not ready to send in a unit anyway). I know it cant because its not plugged in. But my understanding is that to avoid server flooding with results we don't have continual communication (i also assume this is why we don't have real time processing online) what is this "other communication"? is it needed? can i disable it? (or at least the error message) thanks |

While you are disconnected, go to the Activity menu (in BOINC Manager advanced view) and select "Network activity suspended".

Hi,
----------------------------------------On the activity menu of theBOINCmgr 'advanced view' there are 3 of 6 options relating to network. Always On, According Schedule and , Suspended. Take the bottom one to disable the network and BOINC stops making periodic calls back to the server. Set it back when ready to upload result and fetch new work. Allow 10-15 minutes or more depending on internet speed to complete the exchange.
