Hi Movieman,
----------------------------------------Have revisited and think the differential became more pronounced around when 5.10 started to be fielded. Because of it's higher claiming than predecessors, the obvious (perceptual) effect is that the differentials for those at the higher side became larger, But, comparing the hourly averages, the actual credit has gone up by somewhere like 0.8 per hour for a C2D machine (per core). As you propose the push to upgrade should help and once 5.10 is endorsed i think it will.... just have to accept that it wont be overnight and will move that average up. The endorsement should be soon and hope it's put out before the big conversion drive from UD agent starts off. Added: Of course to answer 'the when' i did this. Jan-Mar'07 and the last week .

Hi Movieman, Have revisited and think the differential became more pronounced around when 5.10 started to be fielded. Because of it's higher claiming than predecessors, the obvious (perceptual) effect is that the differentials for those at the higher side became larger, But, comparing the hourly averages, the actual credit has gone up by somewhere like 0.8 per hour for a C2D machine (per core). Hi Sek: I agree on the 5.10.xx part. I'm just trying to find a way to get us all on the same page so to speak. Now people being people will use the version of boinc that benches the highest and will see that one as the "right" one..Ego I think or wishfull thinking but the end result is the same. The reason I asked what time frame you did your spreadsheets in was how it relates to the purchases of the high end quads and clovers. Clovertowns didn't really get released till the end of January by Intel and weren't really in the average guys hands till April. Pretty close with the quads also. People weren't buying them in quantity till just a month ago when the price dropped from $550.00 to $300.00 so I don't think you'd have seen a proper represtentaion of what is being used in WCG today in those numbers generated the first quarter of 2007. If they are holding true on your current numbers just done I'm very surprised and it tells me that not as many have upgraded to the quads as I'd expected. Bottom line is if WCG can do something to bring us all closer together that would be great. I haven't even looked at the new 6.xx release of BOINC yet so I don't know what effect that will have. Thanks again for your time and imput. ![]() |
