Multiple projects?

I seem to have four projects running concurrently. Is this possible? If so, how can I control this??

Re: Multiple projects?

If you have a quad, you will have 4 tasks. BOINC is configured to automatically allow all cores up to 16 i na system.

You can select the number of CPU's in the My Grid > Device Manager > Device Profile > Profile (default e.g.) selecting Custom Profile radio button. That has a field to pair it down.

cheers

Re: Multiple projects?

Most of us WITHOUT a quad would WANT 4 projects to run simultaneously.

Re: Multiple projects?

I am using a single core PC to run WCG but recently when I tried to send my result back via my office PC which has 2 cores, BOINC automatically downloaded 10 workunits at the same time. How can I set BOINC to download only one workunit eventhough I am using a dual core PC?

Re: Multiple projects?

Do you want to run 1 job at the time? If so, refer to earlier answer.

If you want to continue using both cores on your office machine, but limit the jobs obtained in queue, tell us the BOINC version and we'll give you the fitting answer.

Re: Multiple projects?

I only use my home PC (single core) to run WCG but sometimes I use my office PC (dual core) to upload/download result only.

I have just set it at My Grid, under "On multiprocessors, at most use 1 processor". By the way, I noticed that my BOINC 5.10.13 downloads 2 work units at a time on my single core PC. How can I make BOINC to only download and run a work unit no matter on single or dual core PC?

Re: Multiple projects?

BOINC always tries to have a job in the queue so it wont idle for a second when one is finished. By setting the connect time very short line 0.05 days, it will postpone the fetching and adjust queuing accordingly. Once it's started a job, you can always operate the "No New Work" button in the projects tab of the BOINCmgr.

The Connect option you find with 5.10.13 in the Advanced Menu, Local Prefs, Network tab. Note that the 5.10.13 prefs function is bugged, thus you have to watch how it behaves. You can always operate the Clear button to remove the local override options and set the short connect time on the My Grid > Device Manager > Device Profile. They work properly.

Re: Multiple projects?

BOINC downloads extra work so that the next unit is ready to go as soon as the last is finished. The exact number that are queued at any time depends on the size of the units, how fast your computer is, and also on your preferences.

In short: don't worry about it.
