Re: Sad evening in Minneapolis

Hopefully, they realize the 'arch' is one of the oldest and most trusted structures in the world. Ironically, the much older concrete arch bridge next to the former I35w bridge still stands like a rock.

Ignorance, maybe, but I'd put my trust into an arch bridge most any day over a truss. 'You can't trust a truss.'

'Steel truss bridges are more likely to be "fracture critical," that is, they are more likely to fail than other bridge structures, such as a suspension bridge. It's a fact of their design.'

I hope they have enough sense to build an nice elegant arch bridge in it's place. After all, didn't the Roman's come up with the arch concept?

Re: Sad evening in Minneapolis

Check your history. It has been attributed to the Sumerians. They did not have the rock to make lintels for their doorways and developed the arch.

Cheers
