angry Workload

I setup all device profiles with a "Connect to network about every" to 3 days and I get a total of 345 hours of workload for my 8 cores machines which mean 43 hours per processor.
It means that I get less than 2 days of work.
If I "Connect to network about every" 3 days what will I crunch for the remaining day? crying

Re: Workload

Depending on the speed of your machine you may have temporarily hit the wall, speak the daily maximum download which is like 50 per day per core. Had 1 yesterday:

23/07/2007 22:05:02|World Community Grid|Message from server: No work could be sent.
23/07/2007 22:05:02|World Community Grid|Message from server: (reached daily quota of 50 results)

Crunch a little bit so it will be able to determine the real performance. The next day another 50 is ready to backfill your queue. 3 Days though is not 3 days as there is a safety margin build into the algorithm of 1 day. Here's a wiki page with a table that shows what is given with different settings and deadlines. The WCG deadlines are a mix of 9 and 11 days, so the maximum average of 10 would apply giving a best value of 4.24.

http://www.boinc-wiki.info/Work_Buffer

Assuming you are on 5.8.15 or 16, with the next version there is an extra buffer option. While testing this, I've set it to 1 day connect, for the daily flushing and 3 days extra buffer. Works perfectly and got a queue of almost exactly 4 days worth.

Re: Workload

When/if you hit that magic 50 workunits/day, try to connect every day. It's still a good idea to trade daily.

Any day that gets no downloads is wasted. It will only download 50 per day. I usually only had that problem after an extended offline time. I might send in 75, but only get 50 in return. After a day of 50 or two it would settle down. I always had enough in the queue to get me through it without going totally empty.

That showed up a lot with the fast running GC project, but should be less visible with the larger FAAH and HPF2 workunits.

Re: Workload

Sekerob, that wiki page is wrong. Worse, it's wrong in different ways depending on which version of BOINC you use.

Re: Workload

Good. I hope the author(s) read this and correct before the next poor soul falls victim to tweaking the buffer settings.
