I have a mac pro running boinc. If I change the number of cores from 4 to 2 in my setting, will this actually work and use only 2 cores? If so, any way to specify to use one core per processor? Trying to keep the heat down.

Yes it will reduce usage to only 2 cores. There is currently no way to specify which cores BOINC will use, that is up to your OS.

Changed to 2 cores yesterday. Checked activity monitor and saw all 4 cores running like it spread the work load over all 4. Not sure if the OS is doing this or what. Heat still about the same. A few degrees lower only.

Hello Bearcat,
All that BOINC specifies is the number of threads (well, processes) to run. The OS decides where to run the threads. Lawrence |
