Which is odd... seeing as my browser is pointed at that very URL... But I can't ping https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org even from a root window... WTF?

All this after a reinstall with a mandrake package so it'd run as a service...

The version of BOINC is hopelessly outdated. Recommended minimum is 5.2.13. What project url did you attach to? It has to be www.worldcommunitygrid.org and the ip is 129.33.89.134

Re: Reinstalled... and now... *poof*

Any time I see a Linux problem with https, I think of the ca-bundle.crt certificates needed by the Secure Socket Layer protocol: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=14222#108264

Just my first guess,
Lawrence

Added: Sekerob is right! The early versions of BOINC could not communicate with the SSL protocol.

Yes, that version doesn't support secure connections to the server, so it isn't supported by WCG.

Upgrade to 5.8.16. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php

Re: Reinstalled... and now... *poof*

Aha... so I just kill all the processes, and reinstall it over the top.. okies.

All of which boils down to... check the version numbers when grabbing distro specific packages...

Thanks for the help.

A bit of hassling with file permissions, and it's all sorted.. maybe I should learn how to make a package, and make update the old mandriva one...
