A New World Community Grid Agent?

I dont know if im the only one that feels this way but I prefer to use only the World Community Grid Agent. I have requested many times that the creaters of World Community Grid Agent update their agent to a newer verison.

A verison that supports:
64-bit processors
Dual-core as well as multicore cpus
Designed to run on vista smoother and faster
Perform smoother and faster on windows xp

Does anyone else feel this way as well? Or have any other ideas to improve the current WCG Agent?

I just feel that the WCG Agent should be updated. I don't think that WCG should let the Agent grow old and die and pushing everyone to Bionic. World Community Grid was created and the Agent was created to help the Grid, so shouldn't the Agent be updated to better server the Grid?

Re: A New World Community Grid Agent?

The old agent was created by United Devices. United Devices stopped maintaining their agent, and they pulled the plug on their own grid project (grid.org).

United Devices do have a newer agent, but from where I'm standing it is vapourware. It hasn't ever been tested in a public grid setting, and United Devices refused to test it on their own grid. In short, WCG would be insane to take a leap of faith in the matter - and this is quite apart from the large sums of money that United Devices want.

BOINC (not bionic - please) is open source, so WCG can work on improving it directly. And they have already started making improvements to it. The next major release (6.0) will have some very impressive features, in addition to the awesome capabilities it has today. It's just hands down better than the United Devices offering.

World Community Grid have recently changed their default agent choice to BOINC for Windows. BOINC has always been the only choice for Mac, Linux and FreeBSD.

Seaquake2 --

The Grid Agent that has been used by the World Community Grid since it started is licensed software from United Devices. The WCG did not write the code and cannot make the changes which you desire. Because this is the case and because most of what you are wanting to see are available in BOINC, the WCG has now defaulted to providing BOINC. See Website Updates for July 10, 2007 in Member News detailing this.
