new to beta

In June I signed up for beta testing. This is the first round of beta testing that I could have crunched for. My question is, how can I tell that my computer is crunching beta Wu's? Is the information in the application or the name?

Re: new to beta

Greetings and thank you for participating in the Beta.

A work unit will have the BETA tag before it in your task list on the BOINC manager. There are a limited number of beta work units and you may not have received one. You can check your "Result Status" under "My Grid" to see if you received and worked on one.

Please note that beta work is sent out for a short period of time to make sure that new versions and or science applications work properly on the grid before releasing to the general public. These beta's are usually not announced until they are released.

Hope this helps.

Re: new to beta

Yes, it did help. No, I did not have any beta WU's. Maybe next time.

Thanks, Downtowndan

Re: new to beta

In addition to the beta tag, I suspect that something would also be project related. Would you get FAAH betas if you hadn't checked/ticked the FAAH project?

The current betas are all gone, so it wouldn't make any difference today.

Re: new to beta

If you are signed up for beta testing, you can receive any beta project. The only restrictions are the basic BOINC ones (size of RAM mostly).

Re: new to beta

The fact that I just got back from vacation on the 8th may be why I did not get any Beta's. My computer was not reliable for 2 weeks.

Re: new to beta

There were only 300 work units per platform (MAC-Intel, Mac-PPC, WOZ, LINUX) for this 2nd FA@H Update Beta, so the chance of getting any was rather smal sad l. Word is, it went smooth. smile

Re: new to beta

I can't find much information on beta work units. Are the beta workunits available on UD client?

Re: new to beta

UD is only being used until FAAH and HPF2 run out. At least another year's worth of data should be available.

New projects will likely be set up on BOINC only.

Re: new to beta

Hello 64bit,
There are no beta test work units for the UD client. All our new development work is on BOINC.
