Re: Leaving DC

Dave I know Carl made posts but not hundreds.

Like Ady said Carl may be a lot of things but liar is not one of them. I will ask him tomorrow and he will tell me the truth.

Re: Leaving DC

Just never knew it could be done... Then again, I'm one that don't care if people know it's me if I got something to say I say it.
Not until today. You've been here for 2 years, and your first post says you're going away. Oh, by the way, welcome to WCG.

Re: Leaving DC

Adywebb, I could explain this a lot better if I could show you some of the things carl.h has attempted to post. But I can't. They go so far beyond the rules that it's just as well they were removed before they could be seen by regular members. Carl.h may be posting some of his comments in the Teddies forum, but as Dave Bell says - he isn't posting everything there.

I refer you to my previous post above

I know it's natural to rush to a buddy's defence. But what are you defending? He broke the rules. Repeatedly. Nelsoc can clean up the odd lapse, but after repeated official warnings, WCG simply had no choice.

I haven't defended at all what he wrote, only noting that the last post he wrote before being banned was a closing peace message in Arabic which would appear to have been completely misunderstood by WCG as they then instigated the ban.

As I have said repeatedly now, I feel that this could have been handled much differently with a far better outcome than this.

And what is it about this forum that makes it so vital that he should be able to post here? He hardly ever did, normally.

I really don't think this is worthy of comment.

Re: Leaving DC

quote from carl.h's invisible post:
Dave there were no emails to me...I had nothing, not even after being made invisible. I did not even realise that CA`s could see my post`s for quite some time.

Carl --
This is not what I have been told by the WCG project manager who I have grown to respect in my dealings with him the past couple of years. And please, will you tell phicksus that it is indeed possible to post 130 or so times in a 10 hour period?
Thanks,
-- Dave

Re: Leaving DC

I am surprised that phicksus didn't share the several hundred posts made on the 6th and 7th for everyone to see.

Find it hard to believe that one person could make 130 posts in that time frame. Try again.
Ask him how many userids he used to get that many and more. The junkers with no content or messages not directly concerned with his situation were probably not shared with you.

Re: Leaving DC

I really do feel that WCG could have handled this from the beginning far better.

Ady --
I do not disagree with that either. I would like to have seen what appeared to me to be obvious attempts at starting flame wars and the hijacking of team threads dealt with in the open forums. I think that the WCG administration instead tried to address the issues privately by e-mail. The result was an even further intensification of the open disruption.

Dave,

I think this is the crux of the problem, Carl.h is saying he has had no email communication, apart from the standard computer generated style 'warning' about posts - there does not appear to have been any discussion at all.

This leads me to wonder whether we are being told the whole truth by those at the top - perhaps rather than getting you poor maligned volunteers to guess on their behalf, one of those involved could come here and give us the information from the horses mouth as it were. Perhaps they could also provide the evidence of those emails?

Dear Sir,
Recently I (carl.h) have been made invisible on the forum and although this is not a ban none of my posts can be seen. This is in contradiction of your rules :-

Any offensive or inappropriate forum post may be edited, locked, or removed at the sole discretion of World Community Grid. When World Community Grid takes such action, comments as to why the action was taken will be provided on the affected forum post within a reasonable time period. A reasonable time period is defined as being within 24 hours, but could be as long as 72 hours on weekends or holidays.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The one and only post sent by WCG was this :-

Dear carl.h, Your recent posts in the World Community Grid forums are in violation of the forum rules. Please refrain from making these type of posts in the World Community grid forums. We suggest that you employ the common courtesy mention here: http://www.teddies.be/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=44 Thanks.

I asked for evidence of the post`s that caused offence or a pointer to them. This was not forthcoming. I feel not only that I have been treated badly but that WCG have acted outside their own rules. I ask that my nick carl.h be reinstated to a full member that can be read and seen as all others are. Should this not be put into practice I am willing to escalate this to a higher
level.

Thankyou
Yours Sincerely

Dear Sir,
I have still to receive from you any communication officially stating my position, which I asked for and also within in the rules of the forum I am entitled to. I was told via the forum this would be forthcoming.

Please could you state my position clearly via email as I still have entry to the forum and am still carrying out work on my machines for WCG. If as according to the rules and software licence I am banned please state and I will delete all software from my machines as per the Software Licence agreement.

I am Captain of the Teddies team and as such find it difficult to communicate via the forum and put a team view. My recent post`s which I thought were invisible appear not to be (to staff) and I have been accused of spamming, this was entirely due to none communication from WCG forum staff. On the subject of multiple membership again this was due to non communication of WCG staff.

I have asked numerous times for clarification of the situation but as yet, after more than a week, have yet to receive any communication.

Yours Sincerely

carl.h

Dear Sir,
The following read only post that you linked to say`s nothing of my predicament, nor any decision as to my membership of WCG . I ask for clarification asap. If there is a problem with English I am willing to get it translated. Thankyou ;-)

"quote"
This past weekend World Community Grid took the unusual action of temporarily changing some of the forums to read-only. Before we talk about that, let's review why World Community Grid exists and why there are forums.

There are many challenges in our society some of these challenges include diseases, hunger and climate. There are many research organizations that have ideas that can help solve some of these issues, but they do not have access to sufficient computing power to fully investigate their potential solutions. At the same time, most of the world’s personal computers use only a tiny fraction of their available computing power. World Community Grid exists to allow the owners of those personal computers to donate their computing power to researchers who are attempting to solve problems facing humanity. In the nearly three years since we launched we have had hundreds of thousands of members donate over 100,000 years of computing time. This is a tremendous accomplishment and together we have successfully advanced the research significantly. We are truly grateful for the member’s donations of their computers.

As part of the World Community Grid website, we have set up forums for use by the members in the following way:
k
1) To allow members to seek help or report problems with the grid agents or with the website
2) To discuss, ask questions and learn more about the science projects that are underway and the results of those projects
3) To promote a positive community atmosphere about the accomplishments that we can all achieve when we come together

To ensure that the forums are used for their intended purpose, certain rules have been established. These rules may be viewed on the website research page by selecting “Rules” from the menu under the upper navigtation bar. We take these rules seriously.

We understand that members will have disagreements with each other over different issues or different visions of what the world is or should be. This is normal in any group situation. However, these forums do not exist for protracted discussions and debates on these issues. There are many, many forums elsewhere on the internet that exist and encourage these types of discussions.

Due to a disruptive situation that occurred this past week, we decided to give the forum a “rest” and made several forums “read only” so that the support staff could enjoy the weekend. We apologize to our loyal World Community Grid members for this disruption of service. Our technical staff is dedicated to providing a safe and friendly environment for members to contribute their unused computer cycles to help humanity. We will continue to strive to provide an environment that is rewarding to all of the World Community Grid members.

We will be allowing members to post in the “read only” forums shortly but request that members respect the goals of these forums and focus on the goals of World Community Grid’s Community to further research that helps humanity" Unquote
