Re: Leaving DC

Didactylos,

Adywebb, I know you don't want to hear this - but some of the things carl.h has (presumably) been telling you outside the WCG forums simply aren't true. The staff don't want to enter into a dialogue with him - he has wasted enough time already, and we have PROJECTS to launch!

Carl may be many things people dislike, but being a liar isn't one of them.

He received a warning (his second) before he was banned. He has been told that he is banned (both on the forum, and officially by email), and the official reason is "disrupting the forum", since WCG don't want to get into a blow-by-blow breakdown of his behaviour. The sheer number of posts that needed editing is a good indication that his behaviour was way, way over the line.

Obviously, reading the quotes by Phicksus this is hotly disputed by Carl.

The staff did things slowly and carefully, and did everything by the book.

carl.h's behaviour *after* being banned merely confirmed that they made absolutely the right decision.

Although its not a route I would have taken, I can understand the anger and frustration which lead to this - maybe if WCG had acted differently it would not have happened.

WCG have removed a troublemaker. He might be a nice guy to talk to, and he may be fun in a less restrictive forum. But he won't play by the WCG rules, so he's out. Permanently. And that's the end of it.

Carl never professed to be a saint, he called things as he saw it and to be honest I didn't agree with much of it either, but it was never as bad as you seem to be making out, in fact the final post he made before being banned from visable posting was a good wishes peace message in Arabic in the Islam thread as way of apology and to move on, but for some reason WCG then banned him probably without understanding what he wrote.

It should be noted that his card was probably marked long ago during your indiscretion that ignited the flame war between Dagorath and XtremeSystems - I would imagine you have never forgiven him for having to make a public apology on these forums, and no doubt are now delighted you have got your revenge - didn't help either that during this current dispute you showed equal indiscretion at times.

Now can we please get back to crunching?

And you know what's tragic? I'm hoping that the staff didn't allow this affair to affect their critical work, but there is no doubt it will have had an effect on timescales. We will now have to wait longer for things like the stats overhaul and forum upgrade. Don't know about you, but that makes me very unhappy.

I haven't stopped crunching during this, and I doubt it has stopped anyone else - I also think playing the guilt trip is yet another example of your tactlessness.

Re: Leaving DC

3 aliases, and a couple years here... Never knew we could play invisible....

It must be possible. I counted at least 130 posts in one team thread over a period of about 10 hours on July 6 from member names (yes, multiple member names and multiple IP addresses) marked as invisible. Those member names do not appear in the membership list of said team. The invisible person didn't have much to say, actually nothing to say. Only a lonely period in the message text. And such postings continued the following morning at an even higher rate until the WCG administration had to close three of our forum areas for postings. I am surprised that phicksus didn't share the several hundred posts made on the 6th and 7th for everyone to see.

Re: Leaving DC

Just never knew it could be done... Then again, I'm one that don't care if people know it's me if I got something to say I say it.

Normally don't get in too much trouble.. (Except with the wife.) LoL

Re: Leaving DC

Dave, I don't condone those actions in any way, but I think I can understand the frustration when someone is put in a position without explanation, which that person considers unfair after making a perfectly acceptable peace message and being unable to protest that feeling of injustice in any other way.

I really do feel that WCG could have handled this from the beginning far better.

Find it hard to believe that one person could make 130 posts in that time frame. Try again.

Re: Leaving DC

Adywebb, I could explain this a lot better if I could show you some of the things carl.h has attempted to post. But I can't. They go so far beyond the rules that it's just as well they were removed before they could be seen by regular members. Carl.h may be posting some of his comments in the Teddies forum, but as Dave Bell says - he isn't posting everything there.

I know it's natural to rush to a buddy's defence. But what are you defending? He broke the rules. Repeatedly. Nelsoc can clean up the odd lapse, but after repeated official warnings, WCG simply had no choice.

And what is it about this forum that makes it so vital that he should be able to post here? He hardly ever did, normally.

Ady --
I do not disagree with that either. I would like to have seen what appeared to me to be obvious attempts at starting flame wars and the hijacking of team threads dealt with in the open forums. I think that the WCG administration instead tried to address the issues privately by e-mail. The result was an even further intensification of the open disruption.

Re: Leaving DC

This whole thing stinks of UD. Refusing to follow established rules, lying to the membership, blatant and unfair censorship ... looks like the hypocrites are taking over.

I suggest that you go look for the gaps in that team thread for yourself. I am sure you know which team thread to look at. I'm surprised you weren't copied on those posts unless, perhaps, you haven't been given the full picture.

Re: Leaving DC

Dave there were no emails to me...I had nothing, not even after being made invisible. I did not even realise that CA`s could see my post`s for quite some time.
