I stopped one thread after 1000 messages, after it was really crawling. No more than 500 messages would probably give the best response.
----------------------------------------I'll say messages instead of pages. The default is 10 messages/page, and some of us change it to 50/page.

The trick is covered in the new FAQ. Click on the highest page link available or in your example page 10. Go to the address bar, but first look at the post count in page header. Subtract say 10 of e.g. 450 shown. Erase the 10 in the address bar and type 440 and enter. You get the last 10 or so posts. Thanks, I tried it and it works great. I would never have thought to change the http address bar to get to the posts later on in the thread. |

Still, it would be great to have the option of setting the forums to last message first, or last message read.

When using the search form, the offset idea cannot be used at all.
----------------------------------------HOWEVER, the last messages are already presented first, solving the problem in another way.
