I changed the virtual memory setting to system managed yesterday.
----------------------------------------I got a few betas after aborting some items to force a download. It ran a little over a minute on this computer on four workunits and went on to the next in turn and marked them "waiting to run". I got a dynamic message that the system was increasing virtual memory. During this time, two betas got computation errors. 7/9/2007 3:10:10 PM|World Community Grid|Starting BETA_faah2055_d000n110_x2AZC_01_3 7/9/2007 3:10:18 PM|World Community Grid|[error] Process creation failed: The paging file is too small for this operation to complete. The system is now working on the last downloaded beta, presumably with larger virtual memory. This one has been running for over 10 minutes.

Seeing the same and i think its motivated by a logic of deadline and BOINC trying to find the shortest jobs which it computes by starting them up 1 by 1 and run them for a few minutes. Annoying if you got 8 and 'Leave in Memory' on. Think by default jobs not reaching first checkpoint are kept in memory not to loose progress on jobs without any. We had FAAH's one time without none.
----------------------------------------Now 45 minutes into one and dont see an iota of difference in RAM/VM with the present FAAH project. Would have liked those 3 side graphs in slightly larger sphere's.... needing magnifier to recognize anything.

I remember reading a thread over on BOINC development that said that 'Leave in Memory' was deadly with the way the new scheduling logic works. I think that retsof just located the problem area.

Moving on to another computer. Aborted workunits. Set to FAAH only.

The first computer changing the virtual memory (and getting computation errors) only had 512 (496Mb available). The other computer has 3 Gb, so this would probably be less of a problem. I'll have to leave it online since there's no waiting workunits. Now, on to try a third computer which has 1.5Gb. The betas may be gone by then.
----------------------------------------Note: These are all still on BOINC 5.10.7 and were not downgraded since they didn't have any other problems.

Would have liked those 3 side graphs in slightly larger sphere's.... needing magnifier to recognize anything. Same here. Expanding the screen still shows the same size BOINC screen floating around in a blank black space. The only reason I know what the graphics are doing is that they are larger in the UD version. It's tough to tell if you come in as a new person using BOINC.

Now, on to the third computer
----------------------------------------7/9/2007 4:04:01 PM|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work 7/9/2007 4:04:01 PM|World Community Grid|Requesting 304977 seconds of new work, and reporting 14 completed tasks 7/9/2007 4:05:13 PM|World Community Grid|Scheduler request failed: HTTP internal server error 7/9/2007 4:05:13 PM|World Community Grid|Deferring communication for 1 min 0 sec 7/9/2007 4:05:13 PM|World Community Grid|Reason: scheduler request failed 2nd and 3rd computer are online. Can't report and can't get work, either beta or regular anything. They are crunching the last workunit after all of the others were aborted, looking to get some betas. The 512Mb computer DID get some betas earlier (above). I also got a few regular at that time and aborted them, looking for some more betas. I didn't get more. That computer has enough to do until tomorrow. 2nd and 3rd are down to the last workunit.
