100% Errors on some projects

Human proteome folding 2 works ok, but fightaids@home and genome comparison always produce errors on my system (code 2 - 0x2)

I'm running boinc client/manager 5.4.11 installed on ubuntu server 7.04 (64) + gnome, boinc installed through synaptic, on an amd athlon 64 x2 3500, 1gb RAM with 256mb into video share for an onboard nvidia geforce 6100 gfx.

I tried to install the higher version debian package of boinc, linked to in another post, but the manager said it couldn't find the client, and I reverted to 5.4.11.

Dual core appears to work fine, I have 2 tasks running, both processors showing 98%+ usage by boinc client (terminal - 'top'), and I've changed preferences so that only hpf2 jobs are sent to me, but I'd like to be able to to source jobs from all projects if possible, and use the latest stable release of boinc.

(I'm a linux noob - this is my "learning linux" machine, dual-booting with vista, generally accessed remotely over LAN from my main xp pc)

Re: 100% Errors on some projects

Can you post the log entries from the top of the Message tab, that display when you start up BOINC. It will show us what BOINC thinks is available e.g. in memory. FA@H can run up to 450-500mb in VM but with 700mb net ram it should not be an scram issue.

GC is finished... no more work is send out for that project, so for now we just need focussing on FA@H.

Please will you also post the error log from one of the failed work units. You can retrieve the log from the results status page by clicking on the "status" column.

Re: 100% Errors on some projects

I've browsed to the /var/lib/boinc-client/ folder and found stdoutdae.old file, which does show the info requested, here it is:
2007-07-01 01:43:21 [---] Starting BOINC client version 5.4.11 for x86_64-pc-linux-gnu
2007-07-01 01:43:21 [---] libcurl/7.15.5 OpenSSL/0.9.8c zlib/1.2.3 libidn/0.6.5

and yeah, oops, it's a 3800, not 3500 lol, sorry, not my best time of day, bit of a nightowl :) num-pad is a little complex for a tired mind, easy to make mistakes, ... thanks lawrence, had it been 2am and not 2pm I'd probably have noticed the edit icon, ... looking through the errors they all seem to be the same, so I looked to the very beginning, this is the first set of messages relating to fa@h:

I don't have any advice, but the edit post option is a pen icon to the left of the post title.

Re: 100% Errors on some projects

That looks fine on the set-up front, but the job error log is a different kettle of fish (or was it cattle of fish ;>). You might try a project reset as BOINC seemingly looks for a FA@H component it cannot locate. Possibly a project detach and re-attach (make sure to select the existing client option if you do). Both should force a fresh download of the FA@H science application parts.

I wonder whether there was a minimum client level for Linux (?). I'd go up to 5.8.16 anyhow as Benchmark is much more equal to Windows'

Added: Found the identical error in a post at Seti: boinc process exited with code 2 (0x2): http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=37248

(sorry, but Seti has been down for the last day or to, so could not look in)

Re: 100% Errors on some projects

Thanks Sekerob, I will try re-attaching project once current jobs finish, and see if I can get an updated version of boinc to work

Re: 100% Errors on some projects

Follow-up: managed to update boinc client and manager to 5.8.17, detached and re-attached wcg, still getting 100% errors on fa@h, updated info:

Re: 100% Errors on some projects

Please try this:
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs
(or use Synaptic)

If this fails, please use ldd to see what other dependencies you may be missing.
