I don't know about other crunchers but I just increased my work unit buffer after extended outage.
When outage happened I was down to my last two work units. Always on 24/7 so I thought I didn't need to have a larger buffer. Any suggestions as to a good buffer size, I am now buffering an additional 1.5 days. |

Yes, mate. A good buffer size is 3.0 days of work. I'd suggest not going above 5.0 unless you want to be shouted at by a lot of very irate crunchers for hogging the WUs.

WCG cap it at 4 or 5 days, anyway - any more than that causes problems with the deadlines.
I use 0.5 days. 12 hours is enough to get you through the average network glitch, while not being so much that it delays work. |

I always liked Backup Projects for getting over project downtimes. Of course nowadays I have so many live projects I don't need the backups anymore.

@Keck_Komputers,
----------------------------------------Where are these tables stored like "Result Deadline" as I've been looking to edit the WCG data for incomplete and outdated information?

I use a 3 day buffer for my 24/7 machines, but that's just personal preference. 0.5 to 1 day should be plenty to make it through the occasional server outage.

The upcoming "Still To Be Declared Supported by WCG" release will have a "top-up" function. This way one could set a "connect to" of once per 24 hours, to report tasks and result files daily (for the eager on keeping their points supply up) and still buffer multiple days when e.g. going away for the week and crunch in off-line mode. Have tested it and managed to get 6 days processed and flush on the 7th day.... I'm sure a few would not happy with my action you'd think, but since only HPF2 was in the buffer, no material quorum delays were caused (and I got my points instantaneous for a personal day flush record of 23k :P )
----------------------------------------Oh and suspending tasks to get more does not work. As from 5.8 BOINC includes these jobs in the buffering computation.

I was just wondering how to do this... Where is the setting that needs changing? Like Keck_Computers, you first have to become 'Advanced Cruncher' before we can tell the secret. But since i'm in a good mood, go to My Grid > Device Manager > Device Profile > Choose the profile like Default and find the "Connect to network about every 0.3 days" and change it to whatever, but not more than 3.0 days, as the higher the number, the higher a safety factor becomes to stop crunchers from overloading their machine, inadvertently. @Keck_Computers Thanks
