The problem is how do they know that what you crunch is actually going here. It would be that WCG would need to generate a reciept some how, that would show proof that what you show as power donated to involvment here. The "results status" page for BOINC shows exactly that... |

Translating flops/iops or time contributed to cost of energy is near impossible. WCG has planned to produce some sort of a contribution certificate on reaching milestones. Some projects make glossy ones with facsimile signatures and one where you can call it off anytime you like and showing the flops done e.g. this done just for fun to find out what triples was about:
