I searched the forums and found several explanations of how 'Total Run Time' is calculated, along with the comparisons of wall clock time and run time. However, I didn't find anything that specifically addressed my situation.
My box runs Ubuntu and XP Pro in a dual-boot setup. I have BOINC installed on both partitions. It looks like I am only getting runtime from my XP installation. I don't believe that it's an issue of not being properly attached, as I do have results. When I check my Device Statistics, I see the following for my linux install: mara-jade 06/17/2007 12:35:06 0:000:00:00:00 32,122 174 How I have managed to generate 32K results without any runtime is well beyond my reasoning ability. ;) My XP install looks perfectly 'normal' on my Device Stats page. I know the low runtime is because that's my gaming partition, so I don't get nearly as much processing time as I do when I run it from my linux partition. nomi_sunrider 06/16/2007 15:09:41 0:001:17:21:29 2,635 14 Any ideas as to why I'm getting no runtime at all from my linux BOINC client? |

The most likely reason is that the work units aren't running properly. 32k is too many - far too many.
Please will you look at your BOINC result status page and see whether you are returning valid results. |

Oy! I have 174 results, not 32K! My apologies for posting late when I wasn't entirely awake. I do have some Invalid results. However, when I look at my Valid results on the results status page, they show 0.00 cpu time.

And I ought to know what order the fields go in - posting in the morning before coffee? Stupid, stupid.... ;-)
My first guess is that your client is claiming zero runtime AND zero credit, but is being given credit because of the quorum rules (your zero claim is ignored). Can you check this? It should look something like this: 10000747-10001407_ -- Valid 03/15/2007 22:10:44 03/17/2007 22:24:04 2.14 16.4 / 9.4 10000747-10001407_ -- Valid 03/15/2007 22:09:47 03/16/2007 10:08:58 0.00 0.0 / 9.4 10000747-10001407_ -- Valid 03/15/2007 22:06:07 03/16/2007 12:27:20 2.29 11.7 / 9.4 (Where the last two figures are claimed / granted credit.) I'm not getting anywhere (yet) finding out what causes this error. However, it will help if you can tell me your BOINC version and where you downloaded it from. Thanks. |

I downloaded the client from the wcg.org download center. I'll check and see what version it is this evening and update.

If you have Ubuntu 7.04 and would like to run as daemon, then you can install with a deb file that will set it up correctly.

Has the repository been updated to boinc 5.8.x series? Last I looked, Ubuntu's repositories are still offering 5.4.11 as the most recent version. The 5.8.x versions offer more options than 5.4.x, so I would recommend the 5.8.x versions for those running 7.04 (feisty fawn).
And installing a deb isn't hard. Download it, right-click and select install. |

...which I am not, but will probably upgrade this weekend (assuming I stop playing WoW long enough).
Anyway, I was running 5.4.9.1. I'll update to the 5.8.x series when I upgrade to Fiesty. |

reference BobCat13 note, 'deb' files are a subject of discussion and make/wanting them available from the Berkeley download page.
