I start up boinc directly without redirecting the output. I like to see what it's doing when I start it. All the other projects produce almost no output, but HPF2 produces the continuous cascade of unnecessary crap that mikus is talking about. I don't know why they did it, but it's really pointless. Anyone who redirects the output to log files will get awfully large log files too.

Glad it works. What's the new HPF2 version number you see, so the FAQ can be updated for the Linux section?
