I seem to have a problem with the app not completing its operation. I installed it a week or so ago and the installation seemed to go OK and the app seems to be running, either in screen saver mode or as background process. However . . .
The main screen shows "Receiving x of y bytes from server". It then says "Primary task executing". The Task Run TIme counter counts off the seconds. The display then immediately recycles to "Receiving x of y bytes . . " and goes through another primary task. The Task Execution Progress continually shows 0%. Total points and Total run time statistics are always 0, both locally and on your server. It seems that I may not be sending the task results back to the server, but I don't really know what I should be seeing. My installation is: DSL line (Verizon which blocks port 80 incoming and a few others) Westell B90 modem SMC Barricade NAT/Firewall/Router Win98 ZoneAlarm v5.5 McAfee VirusScan v5.21 In ZoneAlarm, the World Community Grid Agent is given permission to access both the local network and the Internet. Does the client need any ports to be open? Does it act as a server? What sequence of messages should I be seeing in the client? Is there any confirmtion of task completion and/or results being returned? Any suggestions on what I should be looking for? tia John |

It appears to me as if there may be a bug with the Agent... have you tried reinstslling it? It should fix the problem.

To me, this sounds as though it tries to begin execution, then decides that it cannot. The first thing to check is to make sure that your system meets the system requirements given at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/join_now/system_requirements.html For example, Rosetta will grab 200 MB of Virtual Memory when it begins executing. What does Task Manager say? How much Virtual Memory do you have?

hi jaralston, hi Lawrence
----------------------------------------I'd put my money on it being McAfee VirusScan v5.21. Do you have anything else from McAfee such as parental controls? Dave |

Thanks, lawrencehardin -
That was it. I had set my max swapfile to 100MB for testing some time ago and forgot to set it back. I guess the client was unable to get enough virtual memory and it bailed out. Would have been nice if it had put up an error message. Thanks to all for your suggestions. John |
