Went to BOINC add-ons page and saw is another pgm for limiting CPU usage. BES seems more recent and to have more functionality. Last update to pgm was 12/2006.

twilyth, forget BES as it only handles automatic setting of 1 process and 2 manual which you have to set after each startup. Threadmaster entries only need amendment when a new science comes along and handles as many as you want.... find the Threadmaster Successful Stories "Thread-", for a short "Master" class ;>)
----------------------------------------Edit: Added link Added: Wish these BOINC developer blokes would talk to the Threadmaster author... *STILL* works a treat with W2K and up. They're though facing this multi platform dilemma.

Reviewed part of thread - got to point about registry entries. Don't have a problem with that if it's a one time thing, but don't want to have to remember to add line for every project I might run - right now have placed no restrictions on what WCG can send me.
----------------------------------------Will look into CPUidle or something similar. In meantime have set BOINC to 80%. Just reinstalled - clean - O/S on machine that was unstable. Everything seems OK. Getting XP updates, will retest with each reboot. ![]() ![]() |

The changes are 95% just renaming the key to reflect a version number change.... for WCG(UD) agent it would be from the first second, when the WCG throttle itself at times does not control the speed and does 100%. The clunky BOINC throttle alternates between 100% and zero. At 80% it means 4 seconds run 1 second pause.

Thank you for explaining that but it's one of a handful of facts about BOINC that I've managed to absorb so far. Klunky is OK for a few days until I can find an alternative.
