Re: Is there a problem?

Well that qualifies as strange -- I turned off my workstation, turned my cable modem off and on, and restarted the workstation. No help -- still no joy.

I'm located in Arizona -- wonder if there is something else not going right.

Note, I don't have problems (clearly) connecting to the website. Nor do I have problems connecting to other BOINC projects (aside from the expected flakeyness with SETI these days). But at 0500 GMT I stopped being able to connect to the Grid upload/download system. And now, at 0615 GMT, I still can't connect. sad

No Problems here, uploaded a batch

Re: Is there a problem?

Here the problem persists, I still can'te neither upload nor download with Boinc. When I finish all the tasks, I'll download WCG, in order to not wasting my time xD.

Re: Is there a problem?

After about 20 hours of operation, the BOINC database crashed. I have started it back up and it is running now. We are investigating what caused it to crash.

Members should be able to get work now and return results.

As a side note - the BOINC database was not up when the stats starting running this morning. I will rerun the stats shortly so that the stats are properly loaded into the database.

So how do you convert Zulu time into local time. I live in Arizona (our times never change) and we are currently the same as Pacific time.
...unless you go to one of the Indian Reservations there ... where it DOES change. The on/off days are different this year.

it's just a temporary blip, and it's already ended. I have a couple of days worth of workunits waiting to run in BOINC, so these little outages don't concern me. They'll automatically settle up when the BOINC server is active. It can be offline for awhile and I don't really care. Try that with UD. UDMonitor add-on can do it with a lot of swapping and storage, but only with a lot of babysitting.

Re: Is there a problem?

Let me follow up on what retsof wrote.

We have been going through a process of increasing the resources on the server side for the BOINC grid. The database migration was the last major piece of this work. Unfortunately, when you are doing this type of change on a live system, even when you have rehearsed it ahead of time on development systems, there are often unexpected problems. The outage earlier today was one of those. We have now identified the cause (some resource limits were changed to the account that the mysql server was started on following a change yesterday to make bash the primary shell for the account). This has been fixed and the server is operating very well.

The changes involved in this migration were:

Linux -> AIX
MySQL 4.1 -> MySQL 5.0
4GB RAM -> 8GB RAM
2 Processor -> 4 Processor

We do apologize for the inconvenience and concern that this outage has caused our members. However, the changes that we have been doing (and now have mostly completed) provide us with a significant increase in capability for the BOINC grid to handle significantly more clients working at World Community Grid.
