---------------------------------------- know-all, but 'The Ugly Duckling' is a Danish fairy tale after all, and I grew up with it. In the song the ’ugly duckling’ part is supposed to mean something sad. Actually it should be an uplifting thing, because that ugly duckling got to grow up to become a swan and fly with those noble birds he admired so much and whom he longed to fly with when he was waddling around as the little ugly ducking, mobbed and henpecked by everyone. It is a metaphor of Hans Christian Andersen's life: Even if you come from poor conditions you may grew up to become something beautiful.
