For my part I aquired an unusual affinity for the "A Bridge too Far" film score after having seen the movie in preparation for a road trip to The Netherlands in April 2017 and again after coming back after having visited among other places Arnhem, Oosterbeek, and Margraten. Soon it will be the fourth time. And the fifth.
The composer, John Addison, enrolled in the British Army and was wounded in Northern France after the Invasion in Normandy. Having recovered he participated in "Operation Market Garden". So one could say he knew what he was composing about. Just listening to the music brings forth the ups and downs of that heartbreaking battle. |
