unable to see graphics in FAAH

Hi all,
I'm using boinc agent 5.8.16 . I can see the graphics only once in a GNU/Linux whenever I click on Show Graphics in Ubuntu Linux 5.8.16 . The rest of the time it doesn't show. Is this a known issue? Is this gonna be solved in 5.10 ?
Further more the logging part of FAAH is based only on the graphics so can only hope. From Start Here
FightAIDS@Home: When the Best Energy C graph green line has reached the end and returns to the beginning, whilst rescaling the graph and adding a red line indicating the path of the previous attempt. (See Sample Image and FAQ for description)

Comments, suggestions, additions, all welcome.

Re: unable to see graphics in FAAH

Being able to see the graphics is not dependent on the BOINC version. It's build into the science application.

If you can't see the Graphics: The same post from where you took the quote describes alternate ways to see checkpoints.

a. Setting the cc_config.xml parm that generates the message tab entries (5.8.16 and up).
b. Opening the file explorer and look in the BOINC programs active slot subdirectory used by the active work unit. FA@H writes a new file for every attempt.

If you see graphics only once, for how long and what? Ideally, however briefly they appear, can you capture a screenshot and post it.

Hi shirish, the way boinc apps handle graphics under linux is mysterious... And don't ask for screensaver :P I think I have heard of the roots of that situation were when boinc for linux was written at the beginning for tty-only, and "so far" most of linux crunchers haven't cared of screensaver or graphics (neither have I). Maybe it will change with boinc v 5.10.x... or with X.org 7.3 & krnl with completely fair scheduler & kde 4 etc. ;) However I do not have problems with showing graphics of faah when:
-I do not start boinc from X-independent ttys (those under ctrl+alt+f[1-6]) but from terminal emulator like konsole or yakuake (which I like the most)
-I do not start it with init script but manually
-I do use kboincmgr not boincmgr, because it's more fitted to my (K)DE (e.g. It can dock to kicker's tray); kboincmgr has two buttons related to graphics: show &... hide :)
-hpf2 do not have any graphics under linux because of implementation problems, so it is yet another proof of how it is 'mysterious' ;)

Regards, D_T_G.

Hi there, first of all thanx for answering. Its' also cool that you are also keeping your eye on boinc 5.10.x as well as X.org 7.3 and kernel with fair scheduler etc.

However I do not have problems with showing graphics of faah when:
-I do not start boinc from X-independent ttys (those under ctrl+alt+f[1-6]) but from terminal emulator like konsole or yakuake (which I like the most)

Similar here start off gnome-terminal

-I do not start it with init script but manually

ditto use ./boincmgr where its located. Of course could also make a shortcut but lack of good icon stops me there.

-I do use kboincmgr not boincmgr, because it's more fitted to my (K)DE (e.g. It can dock to kicker's tray); kboincmgr has two buttons related to graphics: show &... hide :)

boincmgr just has a single graphics button.

-hpf2 do not have any graphics under linux because of implementation problems, so it is yet another proof of how it is 'mysterious' ;)

Thought as much.
