Boinc - Universial Binary ?

I'm using Boinc Manager on my Macbook (which has an Intel CPU).
However the Boinc Manager for Mac users is not a universial binary program and it uses Rosetta for proccessing and Rosetta uses the CPU a lot (It works like a virtual machine). So tempreture rises.
Is there a Universial version of the software or will be?

Re: Boinc - Universial Binary ?

Oh, confusion!

Rosetta is the PPC/Intel emulator, isn't it?

Rosetta is also the name of one of our science applications.

I thought that BOINC Manager was a universal binary. Anyway, that doesn't matter - the work is done by the science application, and BOINC identifies itself to the WCG servers as PPC or Intel, and WCG sends an appropriate binary (or a universal binary - I forget how they ended up configuring it).

Anyway, the point I am trying to make is that the actual work shouldn't be running under the emulator.

If it is, then we have a problem - so please feel free to add some further information about this.

Re: Boinc - Universial Binary ?

Yes it is an emulator as you said.
Software, itself seems like an universial binary software. However, the proccess is running under Rosetta. And as i said it slows down the computer a lot and increase the heat.
I couldn't find the Universial Binary version which doesn't exist. Is it right?
Hope there will be a new release for Intel inside Macs.

Re: Boinc - Universial Binary ?

If running very hot use the <cpu_usage_limit>100.0</cpu_usage_limit> setting, which can be modified on the website, with device profile option "Use no more than: 100 % of processor time". Hit update button in the projects tab of the BOINC GUI to replicate the setting to the client. If you simply use the Minimum impact option, the profile default will be set to 60%, which means it's processing 3 seconds and pausing 2.

Wherever i read, always get the impression that MacBook/MacPro were designed to also fry eggs biggrin
