Re: JP's Books Thread

Just finished Daniel from Henning Mankell. A very sad story about the clash of cultures. No happy end, but a beautiful story. It is a very visual novel and I am sure could have great success if adapted to the cinema.

Re: JP's Books Thread

Two weeks ago my wife bought me a book. A thriller called "The Whisperer" from Donato Carrisi.

I was reading at that time Antonio Pigafetta's report on Magellans first circumnavigation of the Earth. So I put the book on my bedroom table.
The Whisperer remained a few days in my bedroom for about a week.

But last week-end this book was whispering to me: "read me, read me". So I started it on Monday and ........ WoW!!! That is by far the best thriller I ever read. Brilliant, excellent. I took it on my travel this week and in the plane, airport and hotel went through it until finished. It is a pleasant reading but after having finished it, you start thinking hard about how deep can people be manipulated and how the perfect crime does in a way exist. In short: "God remains silent but the devil whispers".

I can only whisper: "read it, read it, read it...." wink

Re: JP's Books Thread

Yes very enjoyable; I read all three during the Winter months and have now also seen the film of the first one on a rented DVD although I see Hollywood is also busy shooting an English language version.

Re: JP's Books Thread

I saw the movie "The girl with the Dragon tattoo" (in Swedish) that prompted me to read the book. I found it very good and hard to put down. It is for people who like crime novels. I am about to start the secong book of the series "The girl who played with fire". I'll let you know how it goes

Re: JP's Books Thread

Crime novels from nordic writers seems to be the norm these days. I can understand that as all what I read of this type has been excellent.
The millenium trilogy is a top one and was my entry into this new style.
Then I went on with various Henning Mankell novels (5 books one after the other) that were excellent.

Lastly I changed a little and came back to one of my favourite writers that is Michael Crichton. I finished Pirates and lastly the excellent one PREY. That one is excellent with a terrible suspense, and frankly is disturbing as technically seems very possible to happen in the very near future. Such a book 30 years ago would be pure science fiction. Today it is just fiction.

I also discovered Patricia Cornwell again a crime novel but US type. Title "From Potter's Field". More classis serial killer type. The first third of the book is good, the middle is average, a little lengthy, the last third is excellent.
