confused Forum software has problems refreshing threads?

Hello,

I experience bad refreshes of the forum pages when posting new texts to existing threads. After posting the text, the page should refresh with all page numbers visible at the bottom of the page, but sometimes page numbers disappear.

When pushing [F5] a few times, the numbers re-appear.

My guess is, that the forum software can't cope with the large number of visitors?

Can anyone comment on this?

Thanks!

No, the forum's not under any stress. It's just old and buggy.

Can't say I've observed the precise issue you are reporting, though.

Re: Forum software has problems refreshing threads?

Hi E Frijters,

yes, a few more depending on geographical location have incurred this. Myself i have this a bit more when the statistics updates are running, but as you see I'm posting rather quick. Noticed when certain streaming video it transmitted over the web, performance goes down and refreshes sometimes take a minute.

With the influx of many Grorg refugees we see higher traffic densities, but expect it to subside. Anyway, just reading yesterday that a heavier server is put in place ready to be taking over... think the old one has 4gb ram, the new one 8gb. Set and ready to cater for lots more growth.

let us know if it persists and we alert the technicians.

Re: Forum software has problems refreshing threads?

The only delays I have seen were due to the (colorful, derogatory, expletive description deleted by Vester) signatures loading slowly. Those are third party servers' bandwidth problems.

concur Vester. Noted that threads where members have e.g 'Boerni' signatures, not working presently, go into permanent refresh mode and load slow.

@Sekerob:

Thanks for the info. It's nice to hear they are implementing new hardware (never heard of such a thing at grid.org) Thumbs up!

I never encountered this behaviour, but now I know, I can live with that.... I just use the [F5] a lot more... :o)

Bandwith is not a problem. The overall stats are impressive and I'm glad WCG is coping with the supply and demand...!
