Re: HUGE Work unit!!

Not really. If it's the first time you do one of the WCG projects or if there is a new version, the new science is downloaded. Those can be indeed in the range of 10-12mb.

What science was yours for?

Added: Never pay attention with my 20mb real ADSL, but a project reset would cause the same!

Re: HUGE Work unit!!

You have no computers registered with us under the member name you used above. What is the computer id for the computer where this workunit is downloading?

Re: HUGE Work unit!!

I've just started running WCG again on 3 PC's, and they're also crunching huge work units. One PC has been crunching for over 15 hours and still has over 3 hours to go (and the time keeps extending - when it started, it had a completion time of 9 hours). Another PC has just started crunching a work unit with an estimated time of 26 hours.

With the deadlines set, and the number of hours I have my PC's running (which is still more than the average person), these workunits simply won't be completed before their deadline.

WCG need to either reduce the size of the workunits, or allow users to specify the run-time of the workunits that they do, similar to what can be done for the Rosetta project.

WCG has some really worthwhile projects, but if nothing is done about the workunit size, I'll be forced to detatch from the project, as I suspect many other users have already done.

Re: HUGE Work unit!!

The Genome Comparison WU's seem smaller, why not just switch to doing them?

Adrian,

Why do you think that your PC's will not be able to complete the work by their due date? I just checked the work assigned to you and none of the work is due before May 29th - over a week away.

thanks,
Kevin
