Hi folks
----------------------------------------I have read (and accept) that the screen saver on the UD agent eats some CPU cycles that BOINC people (no doubt a very special sub-category of the species) feel are better used to crunch data. However the screen saver is not that expensive in terms of crunching and it does look soothing given what it depicts as happening underneath. Is there an option for using the screen saver graphics of the UD agent for BOINC users, or does BOINC have its own. John ![]() |

BOINC has its own, and a screensaver, too.

How do I invoke the screen saver.
----------------------------------------I have looked at the various control panels on both the tool itself and also on my wcg page. ![]() |

Open Control Panel, click Display, click Screen saver, choose the BOINC screensaver.
There's an option during installation that sets it as the default screensaver for you. There is no screensaver available (yet) for Linux or Mac. |

Never thought of that.

This is just my opinion, but the very best "screen saver" is the one (in Windows) called "blank".
It is the only one that actually "saves" anything; in this context, it saves power, saves CRTs from phosphor burn and saves CPU cycles by not wasting any on animated graphics that are not going to be viewed most of the time. |

I use boinc for servers which don't even have monitors attached to them. I run UD on my workstation and laptop, but never use the screensaver anyway.
To each his own. |

Ummm.... "Blank" doesn't really save anything. If you really want to save energy, set your monitor to go into power saving mode instead.
