The hinge can be replaced. I repaired a Dell that my granddaughter dropped for about $40. Download the manual and search on Google for the part(s). Consider it a learning experience. Good luck.

knocked it off a table while talking to somebody. It wasn't the talking that did it. It had to do with waving arms around.

I shot an elephant in my pajamas!
----------------------------------------![]() My granddaughter was in her first year of college six time zones from home when she tripped over her LAN cable, dropped her Dell laptop, and broke one of two monitor hinges. One of the two fans in the fan assembly failed. Since it was urgent, I got online and ordered her another computer which Newegg sent directly to her. She shipped the broken one to me. I replaced the broken parts and upgraded the processor. The old laptop has been crunching 24/7 for the last 17 months. This laptop runs a fan speed contol utility and has a polished heatsink with Arctic Silver 5 on it, so readers shouldn't presume that their laptops can run 24/7 with CPU temperatures between 43 and 50 C. I also bought her a Linksys WRT54GC Compact Wireless-G Broadband Router. If I'm lucky, she won't trip over the power adapter. If I'm not lucky, I'll have another 2.0 GHz of full-time ABS computer crunching power in my home. ![]() ![]() |
