ATM I'm crunching for XS_THE_MACHINE user as a sub-team. However, when I crunched under 'riptide' I also had this problem. The BOINC client NEVER downloads enough work for me. The profile is set to connect every 7 days, and it never DL's enough for the seven days. Now, The WU's are done swiftly enough, well withing the time period aloud. i just see the machine going into idle when it happens that I run our of work, just when the WCG site is down, or when the internet is not on.....
----------------------------------------Its a major MAJOR pain for me. I'm sure that I would do WCG more if it was fixed for me.... I'm writing this on a E6600 @ 3.6Ghz sitting idle because... 1) 29/04/2007 10:45:47|World Community Grid|Deferring communication for 35 min 29 sec 29/04/2007 10:45:47|World Community Grid|Reason: scheduler request failed 29/04/2007 11:15:57|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user 29/04/2007 11:15:57|World Community Grid|Requesting 1209600 seconds of new work, and reporting 12 completed tasks 29/04/2007 11:17:02|World Community Grid|Scheduler request failed: HTTP internal server error 29/04/2007 11:17:02|World Community Grid|Deferring communication for 38 min 1 sec 29/04/2007 11:17:02|World Community Grid|Reason: scheduler request failed and 2) The dang client never DL's enough work to do me. 12 WU's is less than 1 day for me...... -- This post has been edited for inappropriate language - nelsoc [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 1, 2007 1:57:04 PM] |

BOINC will only send
----------------------------------------If you see the message "reached daily quota", then contact WCG directly and ask them to increase it for you. Otherwise, just let BOINC do its thing. Stay online, and your queue will gradually build up. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 29, 2007 12:11:40 PM] |

BOINC will only send 12 work units at once You have that wrong BOINC will send out as many WU's it can in relation to the settings for connecting to the net every X amount of days/ hours (unless of course it reaches its quota which is a different matter) If its only sending a few out then something must be making it think it will not meet its deadlines in the time allocated. |

This is how the limits were set in January (they may have been adjusted since, now that we are running shorter workunits):
Max 10 workunits sent per request Max 30 workunits sent per processor per day Max 16 processors on a computer So for a 16 proc computer the limit would be 30*16 = 480. |

Confirmed: 1 : 0 for the CA's ;>) If a machine blasts thru more than 50 valid per core per day, a special request thru "contact_us" mail will allow the technicians to evaluate if individual higher quotas can be granted (see footnote). ciao Added for Riptide: The Little ![]() Edit: Mentioned in Other thread by knreed, that the "Per Core" limit is now 50 per 24 hours. ![]()

Hello riptide!
----------------------------------------While BOINC is still building up your queue you might temporarily de-select Genome Comparison which usually delivers the fastest WUs. That way, 12 not-GC WUs should take at least 2 or 3 times longer to process, which might be enough to help BOINC build up the stable long queue that you need. The GC project will not be penalized because (1) slower machines like mine love GC WUs very much and (2) because the WCG servers balance WUs delivery between projects according to the pattern defined by the grid management people.Cheers. Jean. |

So WCG servers are back up and yes, its DL'ing 10 WU's.
----------------------------------------Now heres the conflict I see in the above. If it only lets it DL 10 per request, what is the point of having a profile whereby you can set it to connect only every 7 days. I think I have the HD allocation at default. 1GB? But I will check this. EDIT: ok second request went through... another 10 WUs on the DL list. AS fo your questions earlier, I connect once a day at least... however on dial up I'd rather not have to..... connect that often. As I'm writing this seems like 3rd request has gone through.... 30WU's in Queue. So at 30WU have I reached my maximum for the day. This might be manageable on the C2D. Must Check QX6700 and see what that is getting. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 29, 2007 12:36:39 PM] |

riptide,
I need some more information about the problem. 1) The information you posted above is what happens every week during the Sunday maintenance window. See https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=1534 for information about standard maintenance periods. 2) I'm not 100% sure but I think you are talking about computer id = 162665. Can you go to the top of the messages log and see if this is the computer you are talking about? This computer returned 31 results on Friday and it currently has 20 workunits cached. How often do you see your machine go idle and what is your 'connect to network about every' setting set at? |

But I will check this. After the 5 minute timeout expires, it will download another 10 workunits. It will repeat this until it has its desired cache. The 10 download workunit limit is necessary to limit the damage that is done by machines who do nothing but return errors. I would recommend that you not use the limit of 7 days. The 5.8 client has an algorithm for this value that will actually limit your ability to download work with this large of a value. I would recommend you use a max value of about 3-3.5 days. This algorithm is being reworked for the 5.10 BOINC client. |
