Ref JPs post on Holland
I lived for some time on the Romney Marsh in Kent Had a Dyke at the bottom of the garden they criss crossed the area in the Dykes there were Frogs huge things that at night made a lot of noise When i first moved there I thought the noise was Ducks quacking!!!.Extremly flat we even had Tulip fields. My first wifes family lived on the Isle of Ely the
family farm was well below sea level and they also had a Dyke nearby
dead straight for miles with a pumping station nearby.trying to recall what it was called something like ten mile bank???
Will have to check out the map google here I come ...

Yep, it's true! A large part of the country is situated below sea level. Then again, in other parts of the world people choose to live in areas where there are at least 4 to 5 hurricane a year. It's a calculated risk.
Especially in my case, because my home is about 5 meters above sea level. If there are any changes in the climate causing a large flood ... I finally got my beach house devilish biggrin devilish
