Vista problems.

While I bet I am not the first to have them I still can't fix mine.

I have loaded it grid on a second drive. Set permissions and I also run it as admin. I still can't get the second set of files to come to me.

I get to
Recieving 3836 of 3836 and it quits.

What am I doing wrong.

Re: Vista problems.

Are you using BOINC or UD? If UD, I recommend BOINC. Remember to install it outside Program Files.

If you're already using BOINC, then perhaps we need to check firewall settings and stuff like that.

Re: Vista problems.

That 3836 of 3836 bytes is a classic for insufficient free RAM resources for the UD Agent. Try unchecking the big jobs in your My Grid > My Projects profile like Human Proteome folding and FightAIDS to see if you get a Genome Comparison or Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy. If not, i fear some RAM strips need adding.

talk to u later.

PS: i've been collecting Vista related posts in the Start Here forum. Your one is novel for Vista, so it will be added to the index.

Project requirements are listed at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=minimumreq

You can find them by selecting the little red 'help' on the top right and then selecting System Requirements.

Re: Vista problems.

I have 4 gigs of memory on a e6400 chip running vista. I would like to use the ud agent if possible. My harddrive is a raptor 150 gig with nothing on it.

I should be buffed enough to run anything.

Re: Vista problems.

Can you check the memory and harddisk allocations in your My Grid > Device Manager > Device Profile. Defaults should be good but set it if possible to 10gb harddisk space (which will show as 9.77gb in the agent).

As said, we've not had the specific error on Vista, so can you screenprint or transcribe the pause/error message showing in the agent.

Also, one of the working solutions was to install the agent outside of the C:\Program Files\ directory group. Possibly Vista is just putting the squeeze on in terms of space allocation or permissions. Reinstall to e.g. D:\WCG\ or C:\WCG\

cheers.

Re: Vista problems.

You should. But with that much memory, it is just possible that UD is miscalculating it.

BOINC really is better - and you need BOINC to take advantage of your dual cores.

Re: Vista problems.

Just checked. I am on 10 gig.
I moved my stuff to f:\WorldCommunityGrid and given all users full rights.

I am running grid as admin too.

Re: Vista problems.

I am begiining to think it's got something to do with the old grid stuff. When I got home today another of my computers was acting up in a very similar manner.

On a couple of my machines, I found that even after uninstalling the old UD agent, if the United Devices folder in Program files didn't get deleted, installing the WCG version somehow detected the old files and picked up those preferences.
It then tried to connect to Grid not WCG.
I uninstalled, deleted the United Devices folder, then reinstalled and it works.
That may or may not have anything to do with your issue.
I have been using the UD agent on most machines.
On my lone Vista (Ultimate) machine (which dual boots XP because I hate Vista so badly) I used BOINC as a test.
I haven't built any hot-rod dual cores yet.
My Vista system is an 800FSB P4-2.8Ghz/1.5GB Dual channel DDR3200/256MB AGP/250GB SATA on an ASUS board.
