Hello WCG

Hi everyone.. I am a former Grid.Org Member. been over 4 years with them. I am glad that WCG uses the same familar software from UD that I been using all this time.. I used a different name compared to my past Grid.Org name.. would have been nice if was able to xfer my account and stats over.. I know that would be crazy to do but just a thought anyway.. lol when the UD agent for Grid stops working I will at that point install the new agent on my systems to get crunching again with WCG. there are a few WU in process I got a feeling they may get trashed.. but I will let them work out and see.. I am glad to see WCG keeping it all going.. I hope WCG will stay around for a long time.. and with it my systems keepng busy for the causes and missions they can help with that are presented.

Re: Hello WCG

choj01 - welcome to WCG my friend, it was sad to see Grid go in such a way - but I hope you will find this place welcoming and in time become your new home.

Personally I think you are wasting your time crunching those old grid units - I doubt they are going anywhere - but maybe psychologically it would be good to see them finish hugs

They aren't going anywhere. I had 6 grid.org UD clients running this morning and switched all but one because it was very near completion, so I let it run. It finished just a little while ago and timed-out trying to send the results. That might have just been a coincidental glitch, but I sincerely doubt it.

It's time to move on.

It could be they might have killed the server after they did their webpage all over.. got WU almost done.. if they timeout I will just uninstall and install the new UD agent for WCG I like that there is so many projects to do here.. one system will still be strict cancer research only.. my other one here.. will do them all...

running a P3 1 Ghz. Cancer Rig.. the other a Pent D 960 3.6 Ghz hope to add in a sister rig with the same CPU type in the future.. might even have my old laptop a P4 1.7 Ghz chip in.. :) yeah it gets alittle warm at full CPU power but the cooling it has would not be a issue for it..

Re: Hello WCG

The UD.EXE version defaults to 60%. It was set that way because there are so many laptop users that complained. A throttle tool (wherever it is) can set it up to 100%, especially for desktop users where cooling is not as critical. The link is buried somewhere, but supper calls... It can be searched in the upper right.

It was here, in the Community FAQ: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2683

Welcome to WCG. If your machines aren't ancient relics, I would recommend that you have a look at the BOINC program. See the FAQs here for pointers to it and more info. You'll find that BOINC is great for fully utilizing your machine's crunching capabilities - particularly on multi-core machines.
