Re: First Challenge Completed, 25 CPU Year Mark and where did my legs go?

i believe that may ba what is in a couple of the Comps at work. Pentium D, 3.2ghz. think that's right, they are in some Dell optiplex units. Had BOINC on one for a couple of weeks. the work units and benchmarks was showing it just under twice the machine my Sempron 3400+ is. Looked good to me, but i haven't been keeping up with the newest tech for awhile now. ^^

I've been reading a little about it.
It was the first of the 2 core CPUs. The newer ones run a little better, but are more $$. And that one will give a substantial boost to the machine with no other changes.
If I am going to change the mainboard, I might as well build an entire system, Intel cripples the Celeron CPUs, it's almost irritating that they even sell them. What is amazing is that they cost the same to make as the regular CPUs, but it actually takes an extra step to disable part of the built in cache to slow them down. In a normal business model, they should charge extra since they cost more to produce...

New flooring going into the home office so 3 machines offline until the new tile sets.

I do have parts coming for a Dual Xeon Quad core 4 GB of RAM system. While I can't leave it on for long, I will be able to do the "burn in" with BOINC. biggrin devilish

You may need an extended burn test in for a machine like that...

Yes, to seat the thermal compound.

I have a Q6600 coming. Once it is fully operational, I am going to pit it agaist the sum of all the rest of the machines here. Then look at the power used, to see if it will pay over time for the upgrade in reduced power costs.

Lasis siggy test

Lasis, if you send me your grid.org time & join date and the key for your banner at dc-stats, I can finish it.

I can make another banner but it would be connected to me only. This way you have control of that banner after i finish. I will only touch it after that if im asked to by the grid.

I think your talking about the forthcoming new FAAH application on Boinc - its to let us know that the old FAAH work units are being given tighter completion deadlines as it nears closure to ensure a smooth changeover, and to reminding us to tick the 'send work from other projects etc box...' so you don't stop crunching during the period between the changeover when no FAAH work is available. nerd
