I found a thread elsewhere that said I could click my device's name in the Device Manager and I'd have an option to change the name.
But the only thing I can in fact change is the Current Assigned Device Profile. Am I missing something here? (I'm running Firefox on OS X 10.4.) Thanks! |

With the Windows UD agent you can change the device name on the website. With BOINC, all operating systems, the device usually adopts the name of the computer it runs on. Change the computer name, on the computer and the device should change on the next communication.

That's the thing, though -- my device name is some weird amalgam of my IP number and my ISP; it's completely unrelated to my computer's name. :(
I'll try it and see if it works, though. |

Hi alphasqix,
We are using 2 different clients (BOINC and UD). The UD name can be arbitrarily changed. The name assigned by BOINC can be changed, but it is a more involved process, as Sekerob says. Which client do you use? Lawrence |

He's on MAC OS X ergo BOINC. Seen a post somewhere how to force the name change which for some on Linux and MAC is a problem. The IP/ISP name showing up for some is a known issue.
----------------------------------------I'll have a search for the solution..... if i can remember where i saw it :( Added: Okay, so found the discussion which was relating to Linux here: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=12342#90048 Something similar to this might be the answer for MAC: So the issue was actually easily resolved. I was looking through the Fedora GUI and found that there is this optional field to input a Hostname for DHCP under the Network Dialog. I did that, rebooted and Boinc immediately picked up the Hostname. Thanks for your help though, really appreciated it :)
