In my "Device Information" (lower right area), it says that my "Storage" is 0.98 GB, which gives a storage performance of only 20.
However, my hard disk has 90 GB free space. Anything I could do to increase performance ? Birger |

You can change your profile at My Grid -> Device Manager -> Device Profiles.
WCG is unlikely ever to actually use that much space, though. The current projects don't even come close. |

Hi bd1920,
----------------------------------------The subject is discussed in this thread: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=8539#70280 It's kind of an ancient parameter from the days that 10gb was still considered huge. Though the default is 0.98gb, you can change it up to 10gb. It will not use it, but it helps to pre-configure for any large jobs that might come along in the future like we had Help Defeat Cancer that needed 2gb to work. If you go to My Grid > Device Manager > Device Profile and select Default, up top there is a drop down box. Change it to 10gb, Save and the setting will be copied to your client on the next work unit returned. Edit: Looks like another "double up" :D

I appreciated the help but, unfortunately, it was not found to help.
Whatever I try, I still have 0.98 GB. However, if that doesn't matter, I don't care. (My overall performance has a long time been around 140. Now, however, it is down to around 120. Maybe, I shouldn't bother ?) Best wishes, Birger |

Suppose you checked the My Grid > Device Manager > Device Profile, that the 10gb option was saved? You will not see 10gb show up in the client until a new work-unit is retrieved / the client has communicated with the servers. Have they?
----------------------------------------The device rating fluctuates depending on how busy it was whilst it was finishing the last work unit / retrieving a new one. Let us know and we delve further. Added: Per Didactylos comment below. A United Devices Kilobyte is 1000 byte, not 1024, thus 10,000,000,000,000 byte (10Gb) translates in real life to 9.77gb.

Make sure you modified the profile that you are actually using. Usually that will be the default, as in Sekerob's diagram - but you may have altered that.
Oh, and make sure you're reading it right. It will show 9.8 GB, not 10 GB. I know I've made that mistake before. |
