Chronological imperative

I feel like projects which have been on the grid longest (Chronologically in the order of projects accepted by WCG) should be given a higher priority for the free range crunchers. Its great to have a ton of critical projects but the community here seems to thrive and band together when a project is closer to completion. It would be nice to see all that computing power aimed at crucial times.

If chronological basis for greater resource acess seems unfair (though truthfully i do not believe it could ever be so) Then i suggest we make some sort of incentive for completeing projects faster as they approach their end. (if they do the project in phases then treat each phase as a project in iteself)

Everyone eagerly awaits news that another project is completed. I think we should speed up the good news.

Re: Chronological imperative

interesting idea but it sounds hard to implement. smile

the logical extremity of what you suggest is to only do 1 project at a time, which i think would not be good.

i believe there is already some distributional control so that each of the projects keeps advancing.

Re: Chronological imperative

Yes, indeed. WCG control the project weightings to get the work done most efficiently. After all, there's no point surging ahead on one particular project if the scientists aren't ready to deal with it yet, for example.

There are longer term scheduling issues as well - WCG can drag out a project so that another project is ready to replace it.

On the other hand, sometimes the work goes faster or slower than anticipated. You might as well try to herd cats....

Re: Chronological imperative

Herding cats is like herding sheep. If they accept you as their leader, they will follow you.

Some projects find new information, and refeed more information to crunch with different parameters. Ending time can be variable. It is also helpful to have multiple projects going with different computer capabilities or multiple medical interests. It is difficult to push out only one project before starting another.
