Hello,
----------------------------------------One of my friend is disapponted, because he wants that is BOINC client uses only 80% of the CPU and not 100%. I said him to use the option "Use no more than: 80% of processor time"; but this option is only a average. In fact, the CPU usage changes all the time sometimes at 50%, sometimes at 75% and sometimes at 100% but with a average of 80% like it is put in the option. I would like to know if it is possible to configure the client to get a CPU usage locked at 80% for BOINC all the time and not in average. Thanks for all. Wilgard ![]() |

Hi Wilgard,
----------------------------------------Well, the end product is still 80%, though it's not a pretty picture. WCG have pushed the BOINC developers to program for a much finer control not as in 80% translating to running 3 seconds full tilt, then 2 seconds idle and in your friends case, utilities e.g. as Speedstep likely kicking in too, showing these rackety fluctuations. Many times I've mentioned Threadmaster on these fora, a third party utility, providing very fine control, but it is not for the casual computer user... requires some registry tweaking and only works on W2K and above (not heard of anyone trying it on Vista).
