I have my profile to "Connect to network about every 3.5 days " I thought this was supposed to keep a constant que of 3.5 days worth of work. How come I have been able to return numerous completed works, yet have not downloaded any more units into the que? Right now I have only 2 days worth of work units qued up on my machine.

It's going to take a while before BOINC has a good idea of how much work to queue. Give it a week....

What do you mean? are you saying BOINC has to learn how much work my computer can handle?

Yes. How did you think it works out how much work to download?

It does have the column "to completion". I figured it added up this column. For instance, if the to completion column has 6, 12 hour units, then you have 3 days of work. My “to completion” column has 5, 11 1/3 hour units and a 6. This equates to 2.6 days. The funny thing is that the 11+ units are only taking my computer 7.5 hours to complete. I thought there was a problem with BOINC not reading my computer accurately. I will give it a couple of more days and see what happens.

Please visit the 'Work Buffer' page of the Unofficial BOINC Wiki on the logic and algorithm that goes into the 'strategy', that arrives at X work. You'll discover that the only way to maximize the size is to run 24/7. E.g. if the real progress is less than the computed ability per benchmark, the DCF takes effect. That includes time e.g. when your machine is not computing, either off or not because you've chosen for it not to compute during 'busy', or because you've set the CPU resource allocation to lower than 100%. Each time a WU is completed, the past performance is extrapolated onto the work already buffered, thus you see the TTC for a WU down the end of the Task list change as it nears start time.
----------------------------------------A future point release, possible BOINC 5.8.17 or 18 (Windows) will have a modification that actually splits the 'Connect To' from the 'Task Buffer' size. The end result will though still be, that one can never hog more work than BOINC computes from current and past progress.

I thought there was a problem with BOINC not reading my computer accurately. I will give it a couple of more days and see what happens. BOINC doesn't have any problem reading it. I have found that some projects make different use of it, or don't estimate very well. WCG seems to be fairly close. On the other hand, others can be wildly different. Project Neuron estimated 12 hours and I finished the workunit in 2 minutes. QMC estimates 680 hours, and I finished one in three hours. After several workunits, those projects show no improvement in estimating capability. There is another disadvantage in that they screw up the queue, preventing download of OTHER workunits until they are finished, uploaded and reported.

retsof, that is why each project has its own (R)DCF, so BOINC accounts for incorrect estimates. As long as the 'incorrect' estimate is consistent in %, BOINC over time should learn to deal with it. It becomes difficult with those non-deterministic calculations..... one moment they flush thru in 4 hours, the next in 8.... havoc.
----------------------------------------Such a dreary subject for the Sunday night....... i'm sure if Dave throws a tumbledryer at it (or is it whirldryer), it would be fixed soon.... ROFL.
