Just installed BOINC client, won't run work : No work available to process

I just installed the BOINC client so I could use both cores on my PC to support the work - but it won't download any work. I tried connecting to a project (www.worldcommunitygrid.org) but it says I am already attached.....

Help !

Did you try attaching using the "Attach to Account Manager" option? You need to use "Attach to project".

Hi - thanks for the quick reply. Yes, actually I tried both last night when I installed the agent, this morning I tried again only the Attach to Project action - but it said I was already attached to this project (I put in www.worldcommunity.org when asked what project to attach to.

Still no sign of doing any work. BTW, I still have the UD agent running, would that cause a problem ?

The last frame in http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewThankYouBoincWin.do shows how to check your attachment. What does it show as your Account?

I compared carefully the link you sent me with what I have got....the option screen for a single user installation never appeared during my installation. After entering the URL for worldcommunitygrid, I was never prompted for my account name or password, (the User Information screen). I was taken to the advanced view where I tried to attach to a project, but was told I was already attached to this project !

Somehow i did not post a few thoughts yesterday from the notepad, but the key is the one line suggesting things happened out of order with the WCG custom build distribution install (skinned):

Message from server: Invalid or missing account key. Visit this project's web site to get an account key.

Visit My Grid, My Profile and see if you got a BOINC 32hex key. like this:

BOINC Account Key: 0ff801c1234e5c375e678076e123e180
BOINC Project URL: www.worldcommunitygrid.org

BOINC Account Number: 12345
BOINC Cross-Project Id: 4da8c1a16012340bba8b1e852bf61241

I doubt it. U need to detach the client, generate the key, than re-attach, that should prompt u for name and password.

I think that's taken the 1st hurdle. Try detaching from WCG in BOINC and than attach again with the www shown and using your username password under which you just found the data.

If you want to confirm that you have attached with the correct ID, then look in account_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml in your BOINC installation folder. The authenticator should match your BOINC Account Key - 4336738b12fdc7f185d6ae64d2426e09

If everything matches up, then we'll have to dig deeper. If they are different, follow Sekerob's excellent advice.
