There is the 'vista and boinc' thread after the 'BOINC and Vista' version. Try your luck by un-installing and installing it to D:\BOINC\ or C:\BOINC\. Permissions on Vista is a serious issue... for some it works straight away, for others running it as Admin. The place not to put it is C:\Program Files\BOINC\...... That seems to get most going without fooling with the securities (too much).
----------------------------------------On the error specific: Message from server: No disk space (YOU must free 2630.2 MB before BOINC gets space). Review preferences for maximum disk space used. Go to your device profile in device Manager, Device Profile, Default and set the allowed space for BOINC to use to 5gb.... the default is in fact 10gb i think, so it might not be the answer.

After much frustration trying to get BOINC to run on Vista, I finally got it working! I hope this works for everyone.
What I did was I went to the three executable files for BOINC and changed their properties to "Run as Administrator" on the compatibility tab. Then shut down and restart BOINC. Good luck to all! hobbesdl |

That is indeed another solution.... tell Vista to handle it as were it in a mode of e.g. WinXP.... thing is, the science executable changes numbers now and than. You'd have to do it again. On multi project hosts, that is a little tedious.

If the latter, for the readers benefit, the wcgxxxxxxx science (no exe extension) is different for each project and needs updating in the permissions for each version update. This would be similar to what i have to do in my software firewall. The SFW I use notifies me if a new one needs exception, but other brands are known to not do that. cheers

The science executable is launched under the boinc.exe security context, so shouldn't need setting explicitly.
boinccmd should never need special permissions. If boinc.exe is launched by boincmgr (the normal setup) then it will use the boincmgr security context (the interactive user) unless it has been configured to run as Administrator. When BOINC is installed as a service, then boinc.exe runs using the specified account, and assuming that account has the required permissions, no further configuration should be required. As has been observed, the particular right that Vista chokes on is that BOINC needs full control of the install directory. Vista restricts this for Program Files. |
