This question may have been addressed before but I could not find any reference to it, so please bear with me
I read on one of the tech sites that there are autoscripts that search the web for Email addresses to add to their spamming lists By posting your Email address in the forums are you opening yourself up to a deluge of spam in the future Or is you Email address secure on this forum If it is not secure, then would it be possible to add a post to the Community Maintained FAQs advising members not to post their Email addresses in the forums Regards |

Snagged from a post Below...
----------------------------------------Graham, this is a publicly accessible forum. Anybody can read the Forum messages without using a password. This is like a public bulletin board on which people pin scraps of paper with messages scrawled on them. Do not say anything here that you do not want some bored teenager in Tierra del Fuego reading. This is so true. My post hit seconds before our Admins When we first started up in November, there was not a robot.txt file telling Google and the other search engines to stay away from the Forum. Now there is, so if you post your email address here it will not show up on Google. But that is the only privacy in this public bulletin board. Of course, part of this site is secured. But the public messages are just that - - public.............. This is not a peculiarity of the World Community Grid. This is the standard design of any Internet board that does not require passwords to access or switch to the Secure Socket Protocol for a private one-time session. This is one of the reasons that teams develop their own means of communicating. Lawrence but ONLY because he didn't Know I was typing as fast as I could to post a relevant (But still not Full) answer to this relatively time worn problem... (Pause to Copy (and paste to FP;)))... before he could post. I posted below; Then I left for work.... Hi Graham! There is a feature in profiles that lets you ...t of getting the Address. These Spam address/miners are targeting some web sites but I doubt we are getting scanned 'yet'. I thought of that and offer a service to help. Some Members need to show an email address. Admins, Team Captains may wish touse my Service. Or Another good way to deal with Posting an Email Contact "for Anyone"! get a "Disposable email Address" from Hotmail or Yahoo etc. When it gets spammed too heavily for you just start a new account with them. I would like to point out that robot.txt is not going to stop a scammer/spammer from scrapping e-mails from these forums. That is like a lock- it only stops honest people.
Don't post your plain e-mail here or on ANY forum. Be sure to added some 'bad' characters with an obvious statement of how to remove them after it. |

Back to my main point then!
If this is the case? Would it not be a good idea to add a Community Maintained FAC explaining these facts to the Members for their own protection and advise them Not To Post Their Plain Email Addresses In The Forums |
