Re: Error...

Hi Flimo,

You need to tell us a little bit more about your system (OS, hardware, Projects of Profile, Project Loaded etc).... go thru the 'Issue?' link below. The 'notification' appears in a number of quite different instances.

ciao

Re: Error...

Hi Merlok,

I stopped at item 6 which sounds off all sorts of alarm-bells. Please uninstall the agent and re-install to e.g. C:\World Community Grid\ or another drive like D:\WCG, but not to the C:\Program Files\ directory group. There are permission issues that manifest themselves in multiple ways.

Let is know if it does it or if it persists.

cheers.

Re: Error...

It works! Thank you so much!!!! :-)

But I wonder why it cannot be installed in the default location for 32-bit applications under Vista 64-bit?!

Re: Error...

Another solution seen mentioned is to run it in 'compatibility' mode. With all the lack of experience, as we gain knowledge of what and what not works, we'll eventually collate in a 'how to' post.

For the moment doing the install as indicated least runs risk in compromising security in what vista treats as a critical area, so is my estimation. All the data writing does not really belong in that area, but until UD client has been upgraded, we have to around it.

BOINC can actually be instructed to have it's project data area stored elsewhere.... with vista 64bit, you probably better served with that client which can use multiple cores simultaneous.

Re: Error...

Hi Merlok,
Here is a quote from Rom Walton's BOINC blog ( http://www.romwnet.org/dasblogce/ ) dated 24 February 2007:
How is boinc going to get around the problem on Windows VISTA where you are not suppose to (and often cannot) write to the 'program files' directory?

We'll be breaking apart the data from the executables using the SHGetFolderPath API. Although we'll need to put a possible override registry value for those who want to store the data on a different drive.

Right now I've been brainstorming on the various upgrade scenario's. ( XP to Vista and 32-bit to 64-bit )

It is a messy problem.

So somebody knows why this 'sometimes' causes problems. It will all get fixed eventually.

Lawrence

Re: Error...

In 5.9, most likely. A well-documented workaround will be very helpful.

edit: note that the original question was about UD, which is unlikely to ever be fixed.

Re: Error...

Hi Sekerob,

Your suggestion works!!
Before I read your post I was trying all sorts of things to get the UD agent to communicate with the server, but nothing worked (ie: opening the firewall, using capability mode, etc.). After I reinstalled to the root directory C:\ it was fine. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.
Thank you so much!!.
