I tried searching, but didn't see this problem...
I am trying to install the software (regular client, as well as "boinc" client) on my Vista x64 machine. I keep getting a message box shortly after starting the install saying "Error 1327.Invalid drive Z:\". I do have a NAS attached to my network, and drive Z:\ is mapped. I tried disconnecting the mapped drive, but get the same error. Any thoughts? I'd like to help, but I'm getting frustrated! Thanks |

Hello jneill,
This is something new. Are you getting this error when you try to install BOINC and when you try to install the WCG UD client? Does it occur after you specify where to install the client? Lawrence |

It occurs with both installers (when the first failed, I tried the second).
On the non-boinc installer (UD, I take it?) it pops up the "preparing to install" box, which flashes a few times, and then I get the error message. Finally the main installer window shows with the only option enabled to close. On the Boinc installer, I get a window in the lower right for Installshield. It goes through "Checking version" and "Configuring installer", and then the above "preparing to install" window shows, and I get the same error. I then get the "Installshield wizard completed" box, with the only option to "Finish". I should mention I am a software engineer, so I have some experience in this field. I can only guess for some reason the installer is trying to access my network attached storage drive, and fails. But I am at a loss as to why disconnecting the drive, and even rebooting, doesn't solve that problem. I'll be happy to supply anything else I can to help. Jim |

Hi jneill,
These are 2 very different installation packages. It must be something unexpected about the way Vista handles your drive, but I am at a loss for suggestions. I do not have a Vista computer to play with. Maybe if you gave some detail about how the Z drive is attached, somebody more knowledgeable might offer a suggestion. Lawrence |

Well, the drive is a mapped network drive. The login for Windows is the same as the drive, so it automatically connects when I boot without issue.
I will mention I have not seen any issues to date with the way the drive attaches. It is a US Robotics NAS, so I'm not sure what the NAS' OS is based on. Again, I'm really unsure why it tries to access Z:\. The executable is being run from my desktop (as administrator). And I have even unmapped the drive and rebooted to no avail. Thanks for trying to help, anyway. Maybe someone else will have some insight. Cheers. |

Believe the agents wont run from networked drives..... the storage access needs to be pretty ad-hoc. It's known that even USB memory sticks are not fast enough, let alone over a network. If u overcome the forced Z:\ install, make it a place *OUTSIDE THE PROGRAM FILES DIRECTORY STRUCTURE*, but on an in-box HD and it should go.
----------------------------------------If keeps balking at the install to Z:\, visit a big search engine which did bring up a few hits on the particular error: http://www.google.it/search?q=vista+"Err...cial&client=firefox-a http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q110636 I'm no software engineer.... but if it applied to previous Windows versions, why not to Vista.... the Redmond guys are hard at learning from their mistakes.
