Re: Tasks Ready to Report for Hours

When I see question after question from those griping that their BOINC hasn't validated, I keep pushing my BOINC reports out. They aren't waiting on 10 reports from ME.

Re: Tasks Ready to Report for Hours

I just let BOINC do it's thing. With 14 cores crunching away here in my house, I regularely see 20 or 30 results as "ready to report". I've even seen 20+ waiting from a single machine! It's not a big deal, the important data is uploaded to the WCG servers upon completion of the WU. The reporting process is only for points and validation.

I also set my "connect to network" time to 3 days. It protects against server outages and keeps my "pending validation" queue nice and short since the other 2 results are usually in by the time mine gets crunched.

Nothing has changed on stats since Jan.10'2007, so it's no explanation why you see them now and not before....or u were not looking carefully as Mrs G. observed, or you changed something.... less/different projects, longer daily computing, connection interval?

Thanks for all the replies, all. The issue hasn't reoccurred since yesterday; I hadn't (knowingly) changed anything.

I thought I recalled seeing that the stat collection was reset to "only" being run twice a day, instead of four times. Still better than the "old" grid, which only collects stats once a day.

Thanks again.

Re: Tasks Ready to Report for Hours

An old lingering issue with a possible answer: BOINC allows a number of commands to be passed amongst one being "-return_results_immediately" (Report each result as soon as it's done). Found thru trial and error for this shortcut to work without it throwing fits: BOINCMGR.exe "/b, --return_results_immediately"

Think WCG will still love you for turning in work and other crunchers on the points addiction adoring you for always being up top.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For the interestees, other commands to pass are listed below. Think to remember one poster wanted to exit his client after a job completion or when idle..... there are codes for those options too (and more coming per the CVS check in log):
--help Show client options.
--version Show client version.
--attach_project URL account_key Attach this computer to a new project.
--show_projects Print a list of projects to which this computer is attached.
--detach_project URL Detach this computer from a project.
--reset_project URL Clear pending work for a project. Use this if there is a problem that is preventing your computer from working.
--update_prefs URL Contact a project's server to obtain new preferences. This will also report completed results and get new work if needed.
--return_results_immediately Report each result as soon as it's done.
--run_cpu_benchmarks Run CPU benchmarks. Do this if you have modified your computer's hardware.
--check_all_logins (Unix) If 'run if user active' preference is off, check for input activity on all current logins; default is to check only local mouse/keyboard
--exit_when_idle Get, process and report work, then exit.
--gui_rpc_port N Specify port for GUI RPCs
--allow_remote_gui_rpc Allow GUI RPCs from remote hosts
--dir abs_path Use the given directory as BOINC home
--detach Detach from console (Windows only)
--no_gui_rpc Don't allow GUI RPCs.
--daemon Linux: detach from controlling terminal; Windows: run as service
Parts in Italics need to be substituted where in the example:
  • URL = www.worldcommunitygrid.org
  • account_key = The 32 hex BOINC account key found in the member profile
  • abs_path = D:\BOINC
  • N = 31416
For advanced users: Please Let me know if it works and it will be added to the Start Here helpful hints section for easy/easier reference.
Re: Tasks Ready to Report for Hours
I've just tried it by modifying properties of the link to BOINC Manager in the autostart folder.
A box pops up saying Unknown long option 'return_results_immediately'. sad
(I am using BOINC 5.8.15 with Win XP SP2.)
Re: Tasks Ready to Report for Hours
You need to copy the bolded part verbatim into the shortcut, path not to be forgotten and including the , " and --
The sample is from an XP pro machine and just checked. It did push out the result files, though the scheduling had deactivated the network. The "Ready to Report" is though still sitting there.
Re: Tasks Ready to Report for Hours
Well, I hadn't used the quotation marks . . . thanks!
Now I've copied and pasted the command and it was accepted. smile
(Whether it works or not I can say in 90 minutes when the current WU is finished.)
/edit 1/
Sorry, I can't confirm reporting of the result. shock
Due to the messages written, BOINC Manager uploaded as usual after finishing WU, but the result is not reported. I had to force this by clicking the Update button.
Here are the messages:
Re: Tasks Ready to Report for Hours
Positively as per previous post. It just seems limited to the 'Results' files u see in the transfer tab.... the command did push them out, but as to the second part, the reporting to the scheduler that all file transfers are hunky dory and the task can be recorded as done, it seems not to be covered.
The syntax is perfect and added the --dir so as to finally move the data outside of the c:\program files\ directory structure, where it does not belong imho.
Hmm. . . uploading these files is done already by BOINC Manager and active network. thinking
So this command seems to be no answer to the 'Ready to Report' issue . . .
