Linux & Boinc 5.4.9 >>>>Boinc 5.8.11 upgrade

Salutations one and all!!
I have upgraded my Linux boinc client from 5.4.9 to 5.8.11 and now it doesn`t work the way it used to.
In the past to start the client (and manager) all I had to do was click the Boinc manager icon which I had cut/copied from the installation directory onto the desktop.
Now even clicking the client Icon followed by the manager Icon from the installation directory fails to do the business.
The only way I can get boinc to crunch is to open a console/terminal, navigate to the installation directory and type this: ./boinc then open another shell/term/console whatever and type this: ./boincmgr .
The other downside to this is that now when I turn my computer off and then back on again the boinc programs aren`t running, I have to go through the command line nonsense again to start them up, whereas before I think (don`t quote me) I placed the boincmgr Icon in the Linux start up menu causing client & manager to run after boot. I use Suse 10.1/KDE 3.5.1 Help...................... Allan

How did you install BOINC the first time around?

I'm not sure if the various Linux packages have been updated to the new version yet. That's undoubtedly the easiest way to install BOINC, and possibly the way you did it the first time.

Re: Linux & Boinc 5.4.9 >>>>Boinc 5.8.11 upgrade

I installed linux/boinc the fist time the way that was recommended by WCG, funny but this time I couldn`t find the same set of instructions anywhere on the website so I did this(which is a saved version of the afore mentioned WCG instructions):
To run the BOINC clientvia the command line, follow these steps:

Download the BOINC installation file from the BOINC website and place it into a desired directory.
Open a command line window and change to the directory where you downloaded the BOINC installation file.
Make the installation file executable:
chmod 700 boinc_5.4.9_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh
Install BOINC:
./boinc_5.4.9_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh

BOINC Install

Change directory so that you are in the directory created by BOINC during installation.
cd BOINC

You now need to register your BOINC client with the project. This is called attaching to the project. You do this by running the following command (all on one line):
./boinc -attach_project <snip> deleted the rest cos its my personal WCG Identifier<snip>
Dont get me wrong, boinc is running, I`m crunching for Ufies, but its not working right...Allan x
