Mac-Problems

Hi,

after upgrading to BOINC 5.8.15 from 5.4.9 wcg doesn't work any more - this occurs:

So 11 Mar 17:05:44 2007|World Community Grid|Starting task B24185_0246_PTMABL-2-7-18-c1_1 using hdc version 519
So 11 Mar 17:18:18 2007||Restarting B24185_0246_PTMABL-2-7-18-c1_1 - message timeout
So 11 Mar 17:18:19 2007||[error] Process 8471 not found
So 11 Mar 17:24:04 2007||Resuming computation
So 11 Mar 17:25:53 2007||Suspending computation - user is active
So 11 Mar 17:37:50 2007||Resuming computation
So 11 Mar 17:46:31 2007||Restarting B24185_0246_PTMABL-2-7-18-c1_1 - message timeout
So 11 Mar 17:46:32 2007||[error] Process 8577 not found

I've had this before with 5.8.x versions and returned to 5.4.9 - but this can't be the right way to solve this problem.

OS: Mac OS X 10.4.8 / Intel Core Duo

Hope you can solve this any time soon, else I would have to remove wcg from this computer.

Best regards, --- Jan.

Many use BOINC 5.8 quite happily, so it's likely a configuration issue on your side:

Are you running other projects successfully on 5.8.15?

A. It seems that the science is unloaded from memory every time u start to use the PC
B. Maybe u have the throttle feature active?

Go to the Website device profile and change:
1. Use no more than: 100 % of processor time
2. Do work while computer is in use? No (Do u want that?)
3. Do work only after computer is idle for: 30 minutes
4. Leave applications in memory while preempted? Yes

Give that a go, and if not successful, work through the below 'Issue?' check-list and report back.

PS, This 'Process xxxx not found' error is reported on a number of Distributed Computer fora without a resolving answer, so you might be running out of projects to attach to. There are still MAC specific amendments made to the 5.8.x development series, thus be on standby for the next 'stable' release.

I've set cpu-usage to 75% processor and 'leave apps in mem' to no. Seti@home and Einstein@home work without problems with these settings.

I'll give your suggestions a try. Thanx for your quick response!

Re: Mac-Problems

Multiple posts have been made on these fora about the throttle for Mac and Linux being a problem thru 5.8.15. At 100% u should not have an issue with that element if it is part of the source. The 'Leave in memory' should be set to 'Yes' in case the problem persists. If set to 'No' and u start to use the machine, the job unloads and it goes back to the previous checkpoint on resume (after having been idle long enough).
